The 2019 class of Storm Strong participants brainstormed and executed two community-focused projects. Because all Program participants are survivors of at least one hurricane, they had a unique awareness of particular issues faced after major storms. This knowledge, combined with the information gained in the Program helped inform the two community projects described below.

Hurricane Supply Distribution

200 hurricane preparedness kits, plus hurricane preparedness game prizes were given away at community events in December 2019. The much coveted kits contained hurricane essentials within a lidded 5 gallon bucket filled with, among other items, waterproof matches, hand sanitizer, cleaning sponge, NOAA hurricane preparation guide booklet and checklist, and zip lock bags and index cards for recording emergency information.

Hurricane Home Health

Also included in the Hurricane Supply Kits was the second CTP, Hurricane Home Health Mold and Water Safety Cards. Mold infested homes, and contaminated cisterns were areas of great concern after the 2017 hurricanes. In addition to being included in the Supply Kits, they were distributed at two public schools, several community-focused events and are available for download here.
