Before a storm my family prepares our house, boat and vehicles. In my picture you will see my boat turned upside down with straps that are bolted into the ground. We secure our house with shutters and sand bags. We also pick fruits from our trees and share them with our neighbors.

The 2020 hurricane season has begun! In this activity, we’re asking you to share the ways you and your family prepare for a hurricane and show us in a drawing. Selected drawings may be showcased on our website and social media.

For this activity you will need

  • Time – 15 minutes to 1 hour, more or less

  • Materials – paper and drawing materials of your choosing

Instructions

  1. Draw a picture that shows how you, your family, and/or the USVI community, prepares for a hurricane. For example, show us how your family

    • Stocks up on hurricane supplies 

    • Trims trees around your home

    • Shutters your windows

    • Helps your neighbors

    • Collects sandbags

  2. Write a 1-sentence caption that explains what is shown in your drawing.

  3. Include your name and age at the end of your caption.

Contest Rules

You must be in grades K-12 to participate. All drawings must be submitted by August 1, 2020. By emailing your image you agree for it to be shared on social media and re-printed.

Share your drawing

Share your drawing with the USVI Storm Strong Program in one of the following ways: 

1. Email it to usvistormstrong@gmail.com,

3. Share it on social media with the hashtag #usvistormstrong2020 and tagging us on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter

The USVI Storm Strong team will announce the winning drawing by email and on social media.
